BiographyFrank Holmes, a resident of Narrowsburg NY, was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1938. He studied art at the University of New Mexico, received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn NY and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Ohio University in Athens.

Holmes spent two years in Rome, Italy, at The American Academy in Rome as a recipient of the coveted Rome Prize. He also was awarded a fellowship in Painting by the Ingram Merrill Foundation. Holmes has had solo exhibitions at Monique Knowlton Gallery, Galerie Tamenaga, The Myrna Citron Gallery, and Sindin Galleries, all in New York City, and at The Dayton Art Institute in Dayton, Ohio.

Holmes' paintings have been in group exhibitions at The Butler Institute of American Art, Youngstown, Ohio; The Joslyn Museum,, Omaha, Nebraska; The Evansville Museum, Evansville, Indiana; The Newport Harbor Museum, Newport Beach, California; The Heckscher Museum, Huntington, New York; The National Academy of Sciences, Washington DC, and the Grand Palais, Paris, France. He is represented in the collections of, among others, American Express International, New York City; Owens-Corning Fiberglas, Toledo, Ohio; The Roberson Museum, Binghamton, New York; The Dayton Art Institute; the University of Missouri, Columbia; and Sir Elton John, London, England. Art critics Carter Ratcliff, John Russell, Gerrit Henry, Ruth Bass, and James F. Cooper have written of Holmes' work and reviews or articles have appeared in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, Art in America, ARTnews, Art Week, American Art Review, American Arts Quarterly, The Artist's Magazine, and Today's Art and Graphics.
