Biography"Born on November 12, 1948, in Kankakee, Illinois, Nicholas Africano grew up in that small city fifty-five miles south of Chicago. He was the youngest of four children whose father and grandparents has come to the United States from Sicily. Africano went to college and graduate school at Illinois State College in Normal, seventy-five miles from his hometown. A 1970 Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature was followed by marriage in 1971 and graduate study in painting.
