Giovanni Andrea SiraniItalian, 1610 - 1670

Giovanni Andrea Sirani was the pupil of Guido Reni, whose style he imitated in the early part of his career. He engraved a number of plates which he signed G.A.S. or I.A.S. His daughter Elisabetta was a famous painter.

After the death of his master, Sirani was chosen to complete several of his works, in particular the painting of St Bruno in La Certosa. He later adopted a more powerful style, closer to that of Caravaggio.
