Dr. Rosalyn Gerstein’s interdisciplinary background includes a bachelor of fine arts degree and a master’s degree from the Rhode Island School of Design, incorporating studio work with Harry Callahan in both the undergraduate and graduate departments of photography. She also has a doctorate in Communication Technology and Culture from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, involving research in interactive documentaries at the MIT Media Lab.

Gerstein’s work spans a thirty-five year career depicting a wide range of subjects, from people living on the Boston Common to carnival performers in New England fairgrounds. She is a recipient of numerous regional grants, including both the Massachusetts and Vermont Councils on the Arts, and corporate funding from Polaroid. She lives in Kirkland, Washington with her family.
