Barbara Leventhal-Stern Passed away at 11:30 A.M. on Saturday May 29 at Stanford Hospital. She was 61. She was born in Springfield, OH, on Feb 16, 1948. She was a graduate of Kingwood School in Bloomfield Hills, MI, (1966), received a BFA from Tufts University - Boston Museum School, and had a masters in printmaking from San Jose State. Barbara Leventhal-Stern was an artist. She painted large figurative paintings that told stories about her family's past, immigrants, refugees and people in crisis. She loved to paint animals and focused on the magical ways that animals help support and bear witness to the challenges of human living. As one scans the Internet, one sees the full range of her shows, her powerful paintings and woodcuts and the many stories her shows told. Her paintings are held in many private and museum collections. She leaves behind her husband Michael Stern; and their two sons, Joshua (32) and Nathaniel (22). She is also survived by her mother Shirley Leventhal (preceded in death by her father Harry Leventhal, May 17, 2005) of Boca Raton, FL. She is also survived by her brother Robert Leventhal of Dayton, OH; her sister Laurie Leventhal-Belfer of Palo Alto, CA. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, June 3 at 10:30 AM at Temple Etz Chayim, 4161 Alma St, Palo Alto, CA 94306. The Stern family will be sitting Shiva at their home on 3185 Stockton Place after the Funeral on Wednesday. They will also sit Shiva at their home on Thursday and Monday at 8 PM.
