Kimber Smith
American, 1922 - 1981
He was an Abstract Expressionist painter and had his first exhibition in New York at the New Gallery in 1951 with artist Joan Mitchell. In 1954, he accompanied his wife, Gabrielle Staub, a correspondent for Life magazine to Paris, France, where he became part of a group of expatriate American artists which included Sam Francis and Joan Mitchell. He exhibited his work in Paris as well as Switzerland, and his work is in the collection of the Zurich Art Museum.
Kimber Smith died at the age of 59 in Southhampton Hospital. He lived in East Hampton, Long Island.
