Edward P. McMurtryAmerican, 1885 - 1969

Edward P. McMurtry (1883-1969) was born in Allegheny, Pennsylvania, and lived most of his life in Pasadena. He was educated at Harvard and was independently wealthy. His interests were photography, travel, and all things mechanical: he held patents for a number of tools and inventions related to photography. McMurtry joined the Camera Pictorialists of Los Angeles in 1929. He submitted his work to salons throughout the world and, according to the American Annual of Photography, was the second most exhibited Pictorialist in the world between 1930 and 1935, having shown 929 prints in 179 salons. He died in Carmel.
