Antonio Maria ZanettiItalian, 1680 - 1757

Antonio Maria di Zanetti learned to draw for pleasure. Aged only 14 he engraved a series of 12 plates of heads and figures. Later he travelled in Italy and to France and England, where he visited and studied the finest collections. He made a large number of wood-block chiaroscuro engravings. These include two series and a collection of 90 plates, with a portrait of Zanetti engraved by Faldoni after Rosalba Carriera. He also wrote several books on art. He bought many drawings at the Earl of Arundel's sale, mainly by Raphael and Parmigianino. He signed his work with the interlaced letters: A, M and Z.
