William Stanley HaseltineAmerican, 1835 - 1900

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on June 11, 1835, William Stanley Haseltine attended the University of Pennsylvania and graduated from Harvard College before undertaking the study of painting with Paul Weber in Philadelphia. Haseltine studied art in Düsseldorf and traveled through Europe during the late 1850s. He exhibited in New York City and became an academician of the National Academy of Design in 1861. In 1866, Haseltine moved his family to Europe, eventually settling in Rome. During this time he painted mainly landscapes and coastal scenes. He died in Rome on February 3, 1900.
