Mauricio LasanskyAmerican, born Argentine, 1914 - 2012

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1914. Mauricio Lasansky’s love for the print first brought him to the United States by way of a Guggenheim Fellowship.

His talent was received great acknowledgment during his tenure at the University of Iowa’s School of Art and Art History. He was responsible for the reputation of the University’s print department as the “printmaking capital of the US.” Lasansky was recognized as “the nation’s most influential printmaker.” (Time Magazine, 1961)

Retiring in 1985, Lasansky’s home and studio remain in Iowa City.
