Drahomir Josef Ruzicka

Dr. Ruzicka was born in 1870 in Prague, Bohemia. He came to the United States in 1877, graduated from Medical School in 1891 and practiced medicine for 35 years. He took up photography as a hobby in 1901 and starting exhibiting all over the world in 1910. Dr. Ruzicka is a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain and the Photographic Society of America is also an honorary member of numerous clubs in both Europe and America. He specialized in views of New York City, and often used a Rolleiflex roll film camera and a Retina for his Kodachrome slides. Most of his prints were developed in Adurol and copied on slow chloride paper, frequently toned.

D. J. Ruzicka was a founding member of the Pictorial Photographers of America and one of the most noted of the salon exhibitors in the years following World War I. His photographs of New York, in particular Pennsylvania Station, are among the most beautiful images of the city. His photographs are in the collections of numerous institutions including; The Museum of Modern Art, The George Eastman House, and The J. Paul Getty Museum.
