Kenneth CallahanAmerican, 1905 - 1986
Callahan was a man of diverse talents. First and foremost an artist, he also wrote articles about art for newspapers and periodicals and was visiting professor and artist-in-residence at several universities. For twenty years, 1933 to 1953, he was associated with the Seattle Art Museum as Curator and Assistant Director. In 1954, he was granted a Guggenheim Fellowship.
Born in Spokane, Washington, in 1905, Callahan was a close associate of Tobey, Graves, and Anderson. Callahan worked primarily in oils, but also in tempera and ink. (Source: Sonia Kazanjian, The Museum of Northwest Art website,
