George A. Bradshaw

American, 1880 - 1968
BiographyAn early twentieth century New Jersey artist, George A. Bradshaw was a pupil of John Ward Stimson and studied at the Trenton School of Industrial Arts. Later he served as a long time instructor at that institution
Although a fine painter, most of Bradshaw's artistic endeavors were in the medium of original etching. In this field he excelled both as an illustrative artist and as an etcher of views in Trenton, Newark and other New Jersey locations. Gull Hill obviously belongs to the latter category. Dated 1937, it is a most valuable scene of this area during the Depression era. Along the bottom margin of this impression Bradshaw has also written, "Gull Hill, Drypoint, $8.00, G. A. Bradshaw, Trenton, N.J., 1937."
George Bradshaw was a full member of the Brooklyn Society of Etchers, the Chicago Society of Etchers and the North Shore Artists Association. Examples of his original etchings will be found in public collections in Newark, Trenton and elsewhere.
