Joseph Simon Volmar

Born 26 October 1796, in Bern; died 6 October 1865, in Bern.

Sculptor, painter. History painting, animals, landscapes.

The son of the painter Georg Johann Volmar, Joseph Volmar was the pupil of Horace Vernet. He taught painting in Bern and exhibited in Paris in 1824 and 1827. His output consists mainly of lithographs of animals. Some biographers appreciate his portrayals of horses.
