"Alvin Raffel, a nationally known Dayton painter and for 27 years a member of the faculty of the Dayton Art Institute, died Friday of a heart attack. He was 81. A native of Dayton, Mr. Raffel studied first with Martha Schauer at Stivers High School and later at the Chicago Academy of the Fine Arts and the Chicago Art Institute. The artist is survived by his wife Mildred Raffel, a former business manager of the Dayton Art Institute."
