Donald Witherstine was born in Herkimer, New York. He graduated from Bradley College, the Chicago Art Institute and the Pennsylvania Art Institute. Mr. Witherstine held many exhibitions of his paintings and prints in Chicago, New York and Provincetown.
He came to Provincetown in the early part of the 20th century to study art with George Elmer Browne. Donald Witherstine was a former director of the Provincetown Art Association and in 1947 he started Shore Studios, Provincetown's first art gallery. Shore Studios handled the work of many outstanding artists and due to much success Mr. Witherstine soon started a Boston branch on Newbury Street called Shore Galleries.
