BiographyJohn Safer has had a unique career. An internationally renowned sculptor, Safer has been a successful entrepreneur who, after graduating from Harvard Law School, became a television executive, helped to launch a presidential campaign, became a real estate developer, and went on to become a major figure in American banking. Safer now lectures worldwide on these seemingly diverse fields.
The New York Times has compared Safer's position as a sculptor to that of Georgia O'Keeffe as a painter and Ansel Adams as a photographer. The United States Department of State has sent Safer sculptures abroad to represent the finest in American art. His work today stands in over one thousand private collections and public sites and has been exhibited in museums, embassies and universities throughout the world. Ascent, a seventy foot high polished steel sculpture, is Safer's latest major work. It stands before the entrance to the Smithsonian Institution's new Air and Space Museum at Dulles Airport and has been described as one of the great sculptures of this era. Safer lives with his wife, Joy, near Washington D.C. (Source: John Safer's website, Accessed August 13, 2004, )
