Kawase Hasui
Japanese, 1883 - 1957
Painter, engraver. Landscapes.
Hasui Kawase was a famously prolific Shin-hanga (New Engraving) artist, who worked mostly for Watanabe Shozaburo producing idyllic scenes of traditional Japanese landscapes and buildings. He was fascinated by the changing seasons. His images hardly ever have human beings in them, giving them either a tranquil or an eerie air, depending on the viewer's perspective.
