BiographyChu Cha, Hmong, was from Sayaboury, Laos. After the Vietnam War ended, she went to the Nam Yao Refugee Camp in Thailand for two-and-a-half years. She came to the U.S.A., Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1978. These pieces of paj ntaub (pronounced “pan dau”, “flower cloth”) were made by her in the U.S. in 1978. Every day she did needlework. Her needlework included appliquè, reverse appliquè, needlepoint, embroidery and batik. She was a very skillful sewer. Chu has passed away, but her paj ntaub are treasures, especially since the next generation of Hmong women art not continuing this art.
