BiographyVallée was primarily known in America as painter of portrait miniatures. He came to Philadelphia in 1794, and went to Charleston, South Carolina in 1804 and 1805-1806. Later, after 1810, he went to New Orleans. While there, he painted a miniature of Andrew Jackson. This also may be where he painted the portrait of Dr. Oliver Hetfield Spencer in The Dayton Art Institute collection.
