BiographyCallahan was a man of diverse talents. First and foremost an artist, he also wrote articles about art for newspapers and periodicals and was visiting professor and artist-in-residence at several universities. For twenty years, 1933 to 1953, he was associated with the Seattle Art Museum as Curator and Assistant Director. In 1954, he was granted a Guggenheim Fellowship.Born in Spokane, Washington, in 1905, Callahan was a close associate of Tobey, Graves, and Anderson.
