American, 1811 - 1892
In the early 1840's Cridland acquired a knowledge of making daguerreotypes studying under Samuel F. B. Morse. He was probably the first photographer active west of the Allegeny Mountains.
In 1852 he relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio, and then from there to Dayton, Ohio before 1859.
Mr. Cridland retired from the photograph business about 1890 and went to California where he died on Thanksgiving Day, 1892.
