Quimbaya
active, 300 - 1550
(not assigned)Colombia, South America
BiographyThe people of the Quimbaya culture of Colombia (AD 300-1550) were goldsmiths par excellence, using the lost wax method to create figurines and personal ornaments. Sadly, this almost certainly was their downfall, like their relatives the Muisca, at the hands of the Spanish conquistadors in the 16th century.
