Robert Thew

Engraver.
Robert Thew was a soldier until the age of 25. He then set up business in Hull as an engraver of visiting cards and addresses, and went on to engrave the paintings of the masters. He was frequently employed by Boydell for his Shakespeare's Gallery. Later, he was appointed engraver to the Prince of Wales. He often used the crayon manner for his engravings.
