Yoshida Tōshi
Japanese, 1911 - 1995
Print artist.
Yoshida Toshi was the eldest son of the painter and printmaker Yoshida Hiroshi. He learned to draw at an early age from his mother and father. In 1930, his father took him on a sketching trip to India and southeast Asia. In 1936, he went to China and Korea, and travelled around the world after 1945. In 1953-1954, after his father died, he went to Europe and North America, teaching in various cities and helping to promote Japanese prints and woodcut techniques, notably at the Art Institute of Chicago. He had numerous solo exhibitions and took part in group exhibitions both in Japan and elsewhere. He was a member of the Japan Print Association, the Graphic Art Club and the International Art Club.
