BiographyMaxine ThomasJamestown OH
Trained as a lawyer, Maxine Thomas had a distinguished career in law before her travels lead her to quilting as an art form. Born to a line of seamstresses, Thomas grew up in Seattle and saw herself as a sewist, not an artist. It was while on a Fulbright to Japan that she learned that quilts were more than bed covers. Influenced by textiles from travels around the world, she developed her style. Thomas incorporates fabric, threads and dyes to "paint" her textile art. With roots in New Orleans, jazz has been a recurring theme. Thomas has displayed her work in juried and invitational shows in the states and internationally. She has had a number of solo exhibitions. She is published in several volumes and her pieces are in the collections of a major university, an international foundation and private collections of art lovers throughout the United States.
