BiographyGeorge Platt Lynes (American, 1907–1955). American fashion and commercial photographer in the 1930s and ‘40s, Lynes photographed many gay artists and writers and his papers were acquired by the Kinsey Institute after his death. The subject of the offered photograph, George Balanchine, was a choreographer often called the father of American ballet. A copy of this image is in the National Portrait Gallery.
