BiographyStudied under William Merritt Chase, Leopold G. Seyffert was the sixth child of seven in a pioneering family that chose him as the one to come east and be educated. First living in Pittsburgh, his career brought him eventually to New York, where the dealer Macbeth established him as a successful 20th-century portraitist. He painted over 500 portraits, and many are in the collections of American cultural and business institutions.
