About his work, Professor Montgomery writes, "My primary interest has always been in the art of drawing, and of all its multiple aspects. I also find direct connections between drawing and other works on paper such as printmaking and photography. My work refers to personal themes and imagery developed over the course of my lifetime. In my study of still-life and figurative resources, I reduce form and texture to it's tonal essence, erasing all extraneous factors. In my imagery, I attempt to merge both earthly and ethereal qualities."
