Craig Hickman

American, born 1948
BiographyCraig Hickman (born 1948) is a photographer, software designer, gallery wonder and Professor

Emeritus of Art at University of Oregon. His work includes many images documenting the Portland art

scene from the 1960s onward, a vital part of the city's history. These pictures focus on local artists from

1966–1978, featuring the student-led protests against the Vietnam War that raged in the Park Blocks

section of Portland at this time. Hickman is a co-founder of Blue Sky Gallery and currently serves as

Professor of Digital Arts and Professor Emeritus of Art at the University of Oregon. He earned a B.S.

from Portland State University and later earned a M.F.A. from the University of Washington, Seattle.

His work can be found in the collections of Portland Art Museum, OR; Museum of Contemporary

Photography, Chicago, IL; Harry Ransom Center, Austin, TX; and George Eastman Museum, NY
