“I am a visual artist that primarily works in a two-dimensional art form. My visual vocabulary is stimulated by African art, the radical, abstract compositions that Jazz musicians produce and my cultural identity. My artworks are structured layers of oil and acrylic paint on canvas, paper and panels. Color is prominent in my artwork and sometimes spontaneous, the colors used are bright contrasting and complementary; the forms consist of organic and geometric shapes that are juxtaposed and arranged in poly-rhythmic, multilayered compositions. My intent is to create paintings that fuse Cubism, Surrealism, Expressionism and the Black aesthetic. Although my work is abstract and geometry based, I am, using formal properties of space, color, shape and composition to explore non-literary narratives. What I want is for the viewer to have the concept that the shapes and color have a narrative- sense about the interaction, activity and relationship with each other.”
