BiographyClara Soule, the daughter of painter Charles Soule and sister of painter Charles Jr., was born around 1834 in Dayton, Ohio. She taught painting at the Cooper Female Seminary or Academy in Dayton from 1857-1859, and traveled to major cities nearby (Cincinnati, Cleveland, Lexington, Kentucky) to paint portraits. She married Daniel Lucien Medlar in 1863. Clara eventually moved to New York with her husband to pursue her career as a painter. She lived in New York until her death (date unknown).
